It takes a special person to become a Manhattan Review test prep instructor. Clearly, we want people who have received high test scores (usually in the top 1%), but we strive to hire teachers who have more to offer than just a high number alone. Some test prep companies hire on this basis alone, but at Manhattan Review, we go much deeper and take a holistic approach. We want to know a great deal about a prospective teacher's academic background and credentials. Where did he go to college? In what subject did she major? What was her GPA and other academic achievements? These are only a few of the questions we ask when bringing on new hires. Our Zurich classroom instructors and individual tutors are distinguished graduates of the most highly ranked Ivy League universities in the English-speaking world, and they have a variety of expertise throughout many different academic disciplines. We also take into account previous teaching experience, and we only hire instructors who have substantial prior teaching profiles. Finally, we hire tutors with personalities and outside interests that make them ideal for test prep instruction, particularly in the areas of classroom presence and overall approachability. All instructors are thoroughly well-versed in Manhattan Review's unique methods and teaching materials. Our highly selective hiring process produces test prep educators of unique capability to meet and exceed the needs of our Swiss student population.
Manhattan Review began in New York City in 1999 by Joern Meissner, who at that time was a doctoral student and instructor at Columbia Business School. Meissner's students often lauded him for his easily understood explanations of sophisticated ideas, and several of these pupils thought that his particular style of instruction would be ideal for Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) preparation. Back then, available GMAT prep left a lot to be desired and there was a real need for accessible material and instructors. Meissner responded by creating a series of GMAT lectures that used his unique method of instruction. Early returns were highly positive, and these lectures would become the basis of Manhattan Review's first test prep courses.
Manhattan Review has since evolved into the world's leading international test prep company, with offices not just in Zurich and throughout Europe, but in cities around the globe providing services for all of the major standardized university admission tests. Our company has helped thousands of students in Switzerland and elsewhere equip themselves for acceptance to the universities of their choice by improving their ACT, SAT, SSAT, ISEE, GMAT, GRE, LSAT, TOEFL, and/or IELTS scores. We've also published quite a few exceptional test prep textbooks, assisted business professionals improve their language abilities, and enhanced university applications with our remarkable admissions consulting services. At Manhattan Review, we strive to combine the resources of a global company with the personalized service of a local firm, serving the educational needs of the Swiss and European community.
Joern Meissner is an internationally renowned business school professor with a Diploma in Business Management at the University of Hamburg and a PhD in Management Science at Columbia Business School in New York City, one of the top Ivy League Schools. Upon completing his doctoral degree, Meissner chose the career trajectory of an academic and has now more than 25 years of experience as a postsecondary educator. His passion for teaching is evident, and he has taught business courses at the University of Hamburg, Lancaster University Management School, the Leipzig Graduate School of Management, and the University of Mannheim. Meissner's own research on supply chain management, dynamic pricing, and revenue management has been published in several well-known and respected academic journals. While Professor Meissner thoroughly enjoys his research, he believes that understanding an idea is only half of the fun; imparting knowledge to others is even more fulfilling. This philosophy was foremost to the establishment of Manhattan Review, and continues to remain its most valued principle today.
