St. Gallen students taking the ACT must research the ACT score requirements and averages associated with each undergraduate program they are considering. At the University of Illinois, for example, the average composite ACT score is about 30, but some departments have higher or lower mean scores. The most recent incoming class in the Department of Computer Science achieved average ACT scores of 33.5 (total) and 33.8 (ACT math). The School of Molecular and Cellular Biology reports a mean composite ACT score of 27.2 for biology majors and 28.9 for biochemistry majors. ACT scores can also serve as one of the qualifying criteria for merit scholarships. At Louisiana State University, applicants with composite ACT scores of 33 or higher and GPAs of at least 3.5 are eligible for the Stamps Scholarship, which covers the full cost of attendance for eight semesters (currently valued at $32,000 and $49,000 per year for Louisiana residents and non-residents respectively). High ACT scores can improve admission prospects and help secure funding for undergraduate education.

Meet a St. Gallen SAT Tutor: Marisol H.

Numerous students have raved about the ACT tutoring of Marisol H., who has been teaching for Manhattan Review since 2010. "I had a really hard time with ACT science, but thanks to Marisol, I became a high scorer," said one student. "Since I was never good at math, I was worried about that section of the ACT, but Marisol showed me how to raise my scores by concentrating only on the most important math skills," said another ACT client.

Originally from Los Angeles, California, Marisol is a graduate of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas (bachelor of arts in criminal justice) and the University of Oregon (master of education). In addition to her duties as a prep tutor, she is also a faculty member at an international secondary school in the canton of St. Gallen, where she has lived since 2015. In her spare time, Marisol enjoys following national and international politics.
